When you buy a new vehicle, there is quite a process that it undergoes before it can get to you. Nissan U.S.A. manufacturers produce some of the most legendary vehicles in the Nissan line, but there are three facilities in the U.S. that provide a large portion of the Nissan vehicles in the country. Nissan has manufacturing facilities in Smyrna and Decherd, Tennessee and the third is in Canton, Mississippi.

The Nissan Product
Before any new Nissan vehicle hits the assembly line, Nissan’s New Model Team utilizes 3D technology and Virtual Reality (VR) tools to research and explore the ergonomics of placement of parts during the manufacturing process, using technology to put vehicles together safely and consistently.
Stamping
This next phase takes sheet metal and places it into our stamping press and applies up to 5,400 lbs. of pressure to shape the parts of the vehicle’s chassis. After shaping the pieces, dies are applied like giant cookie cutters to press the forms into their three-dimensional shapes that will create the inside and outside of the vehicle.
Body
When the vehicles hit this stage of the manufacturing process, there are thousands of robots that arc weld the stamped parts together to construct the familiar shape and style of the vehicle. When this process is completed, the body is ready for the paint shop.
Paint
Every vehicle at this stage is a masterpiece waiting for paint. When the body of the vehicle is completed, it receives a bath and a sealant, then the vehicle is electrically charged with the body and paint intact to improve adhesion. The vehicle is sanded and primed before finishing it off with a topcoat of paint to create a lustrous, shiny finish.
Trim and Chassis
This process brings the vehicle to life as hundreds of skilled technicians work together to piece together the components like the dashboard, steering wheel, engine, wheels, tires, electrical components, and more. From there, the final components form its outfit which includes the rear hatch, doors, and hood. These components will have been applied on a separate conveyer belt where they are all installed by skilled technicians.
Quality Assurance
When every vehicle’s assembly is completed and it rolls off the line for the first time, it undergoes a very thorough inspection, covering many points to assess safety, dependability and reliability to promote our customers’ overall satisfaction. Finally, the vehicle is tested on a 1-mile track, before being shipped off to the various dealerships around the country. The overall process for every single vehicle takes about 20 labor intensive hours per vehicle.
